GCash’s IPO could widen retail investing in the Philippines, but the deal will still be driven mainly by institutional money. Mynt has clearly designed the offer to be more accessible to ordinary users. It split its stock to increase the number of shares and improve retail liquidity, and the offer price of up to 10 pesos a share is low enough to look approachable for small investors. So the realistic answer is that it can do both, but not equally. Big players will likely absorb most of the shares at listing, while retail participation may be meaningful more as a market-development story than as the core funding source. If GCash successfully converts even a small fraction of its users into shareholders, that would still be significant for a country where formal investing remains relatively shallow.
