Summary
A suspect is now in custody in the June 15 assault on Arabelia Martinez, a 62-year-old hot dog vendor attacked at about 4 p.m. on the 700 block of Figueroa Street.
Video of the incident showed Martinez being tackled, dragged by her hair and having her equipment destroyed after her son said the woman harassed her over permits, tried to extort money and used anti-Mexican slurs.
LAPD has not released the suspect's identity or confirmed whether she is the same woman who posted social media videos denying racial slurs and claiming Martinez refused to serve her because of her race.
More than $119,000 has been raised through GoFundMe for Martinez's therapy, mental health support and recovery, while her family said she is home resting and thanked detectives and donors worldwide.
The arrest has sharpened attention on street-vendor safety in Los Angeles as police continue processing the case and seek additional information from witnesses.
