Summary
Disney+ and Disney Channel have greenlit a pilot for a series adaptation of 2006 mermaid film Aquamarine, reviving the title nearly 20 years after its release.
Emma Roberts will executive produce and guest star in the pilot as Claire, while original film director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum returns to direct from a script by Sarah Watson.
The new story shifts to teenager Coral, who moves to a seaside town, investigates her mother's disappearance and learns her mother was a mermaid, triggering powers of her own.
Aquamarine was released by 20th Century Fox in March 2006, drew only modest box office at the time and later developed a cult following that now underpins Disney's TV adaptation.
