Phoenix Mercury Delete Post Mocking Caitlin Clark as WNBA Suspends Alyssa Thomas 1 Game

Screenshots showed the Mercury’s official account posting a meme after Phoenix’s 111-109 win over Indiana that appeared to mock Caitlin Clark after she was knocked to the floor; the post was later deleted.
Thursday’s league review gave Alyssa Thomas a Flagrant Foul 2 and a one-game suspension for recklessly making fist contact with Clark’s throat in a non-basketball act that drew no foul in real time.
Clark scored 19 points and 8 assists in 20 minutes before leaving later in the game after another foul on a 3-point attempt, while Fever coach Stephanie White called the missed calls “absolutely egregious” and “unacceptable.”
The WNBA, Mercury and Fever did not answer questions about the deleted post, which surfaced after a second straight heated Mercury-Fever game following a matchup two days earlier that produced 6 technical fouls.
