Polestar dealers said the Trump administration’s Chinese-tech crackdown is forcing the brand out of the U.S., leaving many retailers "devastated" ahead of the 2027 model-year cutoff.
From 2027, dealerships that stay with Polestar will largely shift from selling new cars to servicing existing customers, with franchise investments reviewed case by case, retailer Matthew Haiken said.
The trigger was the Commerce Department’s refusal to authorize Polestar under the connected-vehicles rule, which bars imports and sales of cars tied to Chinese or Russian technology.
Polestar can still sell remaining U.S. inventory, including Polestar 3 and 4 models, but no new 2027-model vehicles will be allowed into the market.
