Summary
More than 630GB of data—over 204,300 files—was advertised on a hacker forum before Tata Electronics confirmed a cybersecurity incident affecting some of its systems.
TechCrunch reviewed a sample that appeared to include Apple supplier specifications and Tesla manufacturing documents, while researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia said the cache also contained Outlook emails and SAP-related data.
Tata said it detected the breach a few weeks ago and activated response protocols, adding that operations were unaffected, but it declined to say what data was compromised or whether customers were notified.
Reuters had reported that Tata alerted some iPhone-assembly employees, Apple was investigating, and a ransom demand had been made to the Indian supplier.
The breach hits a company with more than 75,000 employees that has become central to India’s electronics push through Apple manufacturing deals and a 2024 semiconductor supply agreement with Tesla.
