Gachagua Accuses Murkomen of Backing Goons, Warns of ICC Over 2026 Violence

Rigathi Gachagua said Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen’s admission that he had intelligence on mobilized goons strengthened claims that the state was behind planned violence.
Murkomen’s prior knowledge, Gachagua argued, raises why no preventive action was taken and why he did not clearly assure Kenyans that police would protect lives and property.
Gachagua alleged police had been instructed to stand aside as state-linked gangs caused destruction, then arrest opposition figures afterward on incitement charges.
He also said Murkomen was undermining the National Police Service’s legal independence by discussing operations reserved for the Inspector General, creating what he called a parallel command structure.
Closing with an international warning, Gachagua said Murkomen and his superiors risked ICC scrutiny if violence was allowed to proceed under official watch.
