The available evidence suggests Barry Morphew was likely trying to conceal his identity and whereabouts, though prosecutors have not publicly proved that the aliases were used specifically to evade police. By the time of his June 20, 2025 arrest, Morphew had been living in Arizona under at least two different names. A bar manager knew him only as “Bruce,” and court filings say he also used “Lee Moore” while living with a woman he met in late 2024. According to investigators, he did not tell that woman his real identity until June 15, just five days before his arrest, when he said his wife had been “abducted.” That timing matters because law enforcement had already been tracking him for months. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation contacted Arizona authorities in February 2025, expecting a new indictment, and a GPS device was placed on his truck. He was arrested in Goodyear, Arizona, the same day the grand jury indicted him for Suzanne Morphew’s murder. Those facts make the aliases look less like casual nicknames and more like deliberate concealment. At minimum, they appear to have helped him avoid recognition by people around him after his wife’s disappearance and after the earlier murder case against him was dismissed in 2022. Still, motive for using aliases is ultimately an inference, not a proven fact on the current public record. Morphew has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer says he maintains his innocence.

A newly released arrest report says Barry Morphew lived in Arizona under the alias "Lee Moore" and moved in with a woman on May 1, 2025, about a month before his arrest.
The woman told Arizona troopers she knew him only as Lee Moore until June 15, when he disclosed his real identity and said Suzanne Morphew had been abducted in Colorado.
Colorado investigators had asked Arizona authorities in February to monitor Morphew as a grand jury indictment loomed, and they obtained a GPS warrant for his truck before his June 20 arrest in Goodyear.
The report also says authorities found an AR-15-style rifle and a silencer in a safe at the home where he was staying.
Morphew, charged with first-degree murder in the 2020 death of 49-year-old Suzanne Morphew, has pleaded not guilty and is due in court Wednesday before an October trial.
