Summary
Hyundai said its next-generation N electric vehicles will move to a new IMA architecture in the next few years, replacing the E-GMP platform introduced in 2021.
800V charging will remain, while the new platform is being developed for better thermal management, efficiency, cost and integration rather than a full technical reset.
Manfred Harrer, Hyundai Motor's R&D chief, also said the company is working on more immersive N features, with idling effects, exhaust backfire simulation and cabin vibration under consideration.
Those additions would build on the IONIQ 5 N's virtual 8-speed e-Shift and active sound system, features Hyundai says helped make its 641-hp EV more engaging to drive.
Hyundai framed the push as a bid to stay ahead as rivals including Porsche and BMW prepare similar simulated shifting and sound features for future EVs.
