The hidden cost is electricity—especially the extra power drawn not just by the 57-inch monitor itself, but by the high-end PC needed to run it properly. Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G9 combines a huge 57-inch panel, dual-4K-class pixel load, 240Hz refresh rate, Mini LED backlighting, and HDR brightness. Those features all raise energy use, with screen size, brightness, and HDR having the biggest effect. A display like this can draw far more power than a standard office monitor, and HDR or very high brightness can push consumption much higher still. The bigger expense, however, is often the graphics card. Running a dual-4K, 240Hz monitor encourages the GPU to stay in a higher power state, even outside gaming. Testing on high-refresh setups shows the monitor’s own wattage may rise only modestly, while total system idle power can jump by roughly 50 to 60 watts because the GPU is working harder to support the display mode. In practical terms, that can add around $20 to $25 a year in extra electricity for desktop use alone at average U.S. power rates, and more if you game heavily, use HDR often, or keep brightness high. Heat, fan noise, and greater wear on premium PC hardware are part of that hidden cost as well. The deal is strong, but fully using this monitor means paying for power over time—not just the $1,500 sticker price.
