The biggest hardware change is a telephoto sensor four times larger than the previous generation, helping deliver sharper 2.9x to 5.8x zoom shots and detailed 4K 120fps telephoto video.
Sample results also exposed trade-offs: 17.5x digital zoom looked soft, down from 21.3x on the Xperia 1 VII, lens switching showed slight lag, and bokeh edge detection sometimes misread subjects.
Video and low-light tests were mixed, with strong microphone pickup and detailed waterfall footage, but noticeable shake despite optical stabilization and visible noise or haze in darker scenes.
Sony positions the June 11 flagship as a premium camera phone priced from ¥235,400 for 256GB/12GB RAM to ¥299,200 for 1TB/16GB RAM.
