Midjourney Unveils 60-Second Body Scanner as Experts Challenge MRI-Like Claims

Midjourney says its new scanner can submerge users in water and produce whole-body ultrasound images in 60 seconds, launching first as a wellness product rather than a diagnostic medical device.
Experts said the concept is plausible but largely unproven, arguing Midjourney has shown little evidence that its images can approach MRI quality or support claims about screening, longevity, or broad clinical value.
Radiologists also flagged practical limits: ultrasound struggles with bone, air, depth and larger bodies, while the water-bath design could require tightly controlled, bubble-free water and still yield lower-resolution images.
Midjourney says AI and custom chips will process the data, plans a San Francisco spa in 2027, a third-generation system by 2028, and more than 50,000 scanners by 2031.
The rollout highlights a wider concern that consumers could mistake wellness imaging for proven screening, reviving debates over unvalidated health-tech promises and elective full-body scans.
