Hours after that endorsement, Republican state Senate leader Aric Nesbitt suspended his gubernatorial bid and endorsed James, reshaping the GOP primary field.
Michigan Democrats answered by calling James a "two-time statewide loser" and tying him to Trump’s agenda, while the remaining race still includes Democrats Jocelyn Benson and Chris Swanson and Republicans Mike Cox and Perry Johnson.
