Summary
Miami-Dade jurors found George Pino not guilty Monday of manslaughter and vessel homicide in the Sept. 4, 2022 crash of his 29-foot Robalo near Boca Chita Key.
Prosecutors said Pino drove recklessly and at full throttle before striking a channel marker, while the defense argued the collision was a tragic accident that did not meet the criminal-negligence standard.
Lucy Fernandez, 17, was killed in the crash, and another teen, Katerina Puig, was left permanently disabled after the outing for Pino’s daughter’s 18th birthday.
Howard Srebnick said after the verdict that there were no winners, calling Pino deeply sorry; Pino had faced 11 to 30 years in prison if convicted.
