Q: Is Cameron Boozer's proven production enough to unseat Darryn Peterson as the consensus number two overall pick?

Not yet. Cameron Boozer has made the No. 2 debate real, but Darryn Peterson still appears to hold the edge as the consensus second pick entering draft night. The case for Boozer is strong. He was one of the most productive players in college basketball, averaging 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists at Duke, while earning national player of the year honors. Scouts view him as a high-floor prospect, an “analytics dream,” and arguably the safest top-three pick because of his scoring efficiency, rebounding, feel and playmaking. His combine measurements and agility testing also helped answer some concerns about his athleticism. The reason Peterson remains ahead is upside. Teams still see him as an elite lead guard and, in the words of some evaluators, the most talented player in the class outside of AJ Dybantsa. Utah at No. 2 has been widely linked to Peterson, and rival teams have largely operated as if Dybantsa and Peterson will be the first two names off the board. His shot creation, ball-handling and star guard profile are harder to find than Boozer’s forward archetype. The biggest variable is Peterson’s health. His cramping issues and missed games created real uncertainty, and if a team is uneasy with the medicals, Boozer is the most credible alternative. But based on the available reporting, Boozer’s proven production has narrowed the gap more than erased it. Peterson is still the more likely No. 2 pick, while Boozer remains the strongest challenger.
