Lindy Li said her upcoming book "Unburdened" will identify Democrats she claims knew about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline during the 2024 campaign but defended him publicly.
Li, a former DNC fundraiser who later left the party, said Democrats ignored warning signs because potential challengers feared ostracism and internal polling showed Biden remained hard to beat in a primary.
Adam Schiff was among the figures Li cited as privately wanting Biden to step aside; his spokesperson said Schiff’s concerns became public after Biden’s poor 2024 debate performance and July call to quit the race.
Li also said unpublished party polling showed Kamala Harris was viewed as a weak successor compared with rivals including Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro and Gretchen Whitmer.
Her account adds to post-election scrutiny of how Democratic leaders handled Biden’s age and fitness before he eventually dropped out of the 2024 race.
