Summary
Two deliberate fiber-optic cuts on consecutive days last week knocked out internet service for SVEConnect customers in the Mt. Olive community atop Whitwell Mountain, the provider said.
SVEConnect said the damage occurred along the 2500 block of Mt. Olive Road in Marion County, where crews were sent both times to repair severed lines and restore connectivity.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and federal authorities are investigating the incidents as possible criminal attacks on telecommunications infrastructure, which can carry state and federal penalties.
SVEConnect is offering a reward for information leading to arrests and prosecution, and said tipsters can remain anonymous as no arrests have yet been announced.
