Summary
More than 1,500 students and faculty joined Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at TNAU in Coimbatore for International Yoga Day, where he said yoga should be practiced daily, not just on June 21.
Arlekar called yoga India’s “timeless gift to humanity,” saying the tradition rooted in Patanjali’s teachings has grown into a global movement for physical fitness, mental harmony and holistic well-being.
Coimbatore-area events extended beyond TNAU: over 500 NSS volunteers took part at Bharathiar University, and around 500 students joined celebrations at Maruthi College of Physical Education in Periyanaickenpalayam.
At Sainik School Amaravathinagar, cadets and staff performed yoga asanas and meditation during a 7 a.m.-8 a.m. session, with demonstrations by Shri Paranjothi Yoga College.
Isha Foundation said it held yoga sessions at about 1,000 locations nationwide, including 500 in Tamil Nadu, underscoring the scale of the state’s Yoga Day observance.
