Vinton House Fire Kills 59 Cats, Causing $100,000 Damage

Summary
Fifty-nine cats were found dead after a Sunday morning house fire on Gunn Avenue in Vinton, and officials estimated the damage at about $100,000.
Roanoke County Fire & Rescue reached the 200 block of Gunn Avenue around 4:56 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the front of the home, bringing it under control in about 10 minutes.
One resident was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while two people, one cat and one dog were displaced and are set to receive American Red Cross aid.
The Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
