Summary
A TruHearing survey found 28% of Tennessee seniors with hearing loss wait more than five years to seek treatment, longer than the four-year national average.
47% of Tennessee seniors with hearing loss said they have not pursued treatment because they believe it is too expensive, while 34% are unsure whether their health plan covers hearing aids.
55% said family concern would signal their hearing is declining, yet only 14% of those urged by loved ones to seek care had their hearing checked within the past year.
21% were aware hearing loss may raise fall risk, even as untreated hearing loss has been linked to cognitive decline, social isolation and falls.
TruHearing said hearing benefits can sometimes halve hearing-aid costs and has launched an "Elect to Reconnect" campaign in Tennessee to push earlier treatment.
