JMIC Confirms 1 Hormuz Mine, Urges Ships to Avoid Main Lanes

JMIC said one mine has been confirmed near the southern transit route off Oman and advised ships to avoid the Strait of Hormuz’s main traffic separation lanes while clearance continues.
The warning comes as vessel movements rebound: ASXMarine counted 25 verified commercial crossings on June 18, more than five times the average daily level in the first 10 days of June.
Intertanko told members roughly 80 mines still need clearing from the main channel and said the current southern routing cannot safely handle the expected 60 vessels a day.
U.S. forces have lifted restrictions on traffic to Iranian ports under the new 60-day U.S.-Iran memorandum, but shipping groups still warn that unclear route governance and possible new Iranian transit and insurance fees could disrupt trade.
