Summary
Amandeep Kaur secured a Rs 25,000 monthly job offer before finishing a two-month newborn and child care course in Jalandhar on June 20.
Thirty women from mostly below-poverty-line rural families completed the programme, run under Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao by the district administration, Punjab Skill Development Mission and Satyam Group of Institutes.
Training combined classroom lessons at the District Administrative Complex with hospital-based practical work at Civil Hospital, Nakodar, covering newborn care, nutrition, hygiene, child development and maternal support.
Placement drives are underway for the batch, with some employers offering starting salaries of about Rs 30,000 a month, while certified caregivers can also work independently in home and patient care.
Officials say the course is meant to meet rising demand for trained caregivers as urbanisation and nuclear families expand, while improving financial independence for women from weaker sections.
