Google Pushes 10MB Play Update to Fix Samsung Galaxy Battery Drain

A Google Play system update now appears to be restoring normal battery life on Samsung Galaxy phones after users reported unusually fast drain last week.
On a Galaxy S24, battery performance improved after the patch: after 3.5 hours of mixed use, the phone still showed 84% charge.
The update is delivered through Google Play system services rather than Samsung’s main OS channel, and users can install it from settings before restarting the device.
Samsung community users say the update is also appearing on other Galaxy models, though broader confirmation of the battery fix is still limited.
Google Play system updates come directly from Google and were not paused during Samsung’s One UI 8.5 rollout, unlike some past major software transitions.
