Summary
Maine’s ranked-choice tabulation confirmed Bobby Charles as the Republican nominee for governor, Hannah Pingree as the Democratic nominee, and Matt Dunlap as the Democratic nominee in the 2nd Congressional District.
The results were announced by the Secretary of State’s Office in the early hours of Friday after the ranked-choice count for both gubernatorial primaries and the CD2 Democratic primary ran later than the expected 11:15 p.m. Thursday release.
Charles and Pingree now advance to the Nov. 3 general election for governor, where independent state Sen. Rick Bennett has also qualified for the ballot.
Dunlap will face Republican former Gov. Paul LePage in November for the open 2nd District seat after Rep. Jared Golden said in November 2025 that he would not seek reelection.
That CD2 race is expected to be closely watched, with LePage entering as the favored candidate in a district that could shape Maine’s federal political lineup.
