Crusoe Orders 29 Jet Engines for 1-Gigawatt AI Power in West Texas

Twenty-nine jet engines now sit in a West Texas field after Crusoe, an OpenAI infrastructure partner, bought them in two batches from late 2024 through mid-2025.
Each engine generates about 35 megawatts, giving the site roughly 1 gigawatt of capacity—about the output of a nuclear reactor.
The buildout reflects a growing industry push to secure dedicated electricity supplies as AI data centers race for computing capacity.
That scramble is driven by concern that U.S. power availability could become a bottleneck for the AI boom before demand for AI computing fades.
