New Jersey Adds 2,200 Jobs in May as Unemployment Falls to 4.7%

New Jersey’s nonfarm payrolls rose to a seasonally adjusted 4,388,200 in May, while the state unemployment rate edged down 0.1 point from April to 4.7%.
Leisure and hospitality drove the monthly gain with 3,000 new jobs, followed by construction at 600 and trade, transportation and utilities at 200; the public sector added 1,300.
Those gains were partly offset by losses in professional and business services, down 1,500, manufacturing, down 500, and private education and health services, down 400, while information was flat.
April’s job growth was revised up to 7,100 from 5,600, but compared with a year earlier New Jersey’s private sector was still down a net 3,100 jobs and the public sector down 2,800.
