Summary
June 30 is the deadline for Gather’s next Fresh Start cohort, an eight-week free culinary training program running July 14 to Sept. 4 in Portsmouth.
The program combines hands-on kitchen instruction with workplace preparation, communication coaching, mentorship and industry connections to help people facing employment barriers move into stable jobs.
100% of the inaugural cohort completed paid hospitality internships and accepted permanent positions, giving Gather an early proof point as it expands enrollment.
Kia Jennings, 26, said the program helped her rebuild after job loss and a traumatic brain injury; she now works full time as a prep cook at The Tuckaway Tavern and Butchery.
Gather built Fresh Start to pair hunger relief with longer-term economic stability while also supplying the Greater Seacoast hospitality sector with trained workers; a fall cohort starts Sept. 22.
