Kyle Marley Releases UFC Fight Night Picks as Kape Opens at -162 Against Horiguchi

Q: Horiguchi already submitted Kape. Can Kape's knockout power prevent a repeat performance in their high-stakes title eliminator?

Yes. Kape’s knockout power is the clearest reason this rematch may not look like 2017, even though Horiguchi already proved he can submit him. The evidence points to a much more dangerous version of Kape. He is 22-7, has won seven of his last eight UFC fights, and his last three victories all came by knockout. He is tied for the most knockouts in UFC flyweight history, and prediction markets still make him the favorite despite Horiguchi’s earlier submission win. That reflects how much his striking has become his best weapon. Just as important, Kape appears harder to control than he was in Rizin. His recent UFC form suggests sharper takedown defense and better overall composure, which matters against a fighter like Horiguchi, whose path is still built on mixing entries, pressure and grappling. Their first fight ended with an arm-triangle choke in the third round, but both men have said Kape is a very different fighter now. That said, Kape’s power does not erase the risk. Horiguchi is 36-5, has not lost in more than four years, and remains one of the most complete smaller-weight fighters in the sport. He has the footwork, experience and grappling depth to test whether Kape can defend extended scrambles over five rounds. So the answer is that Kape’s power can absolutely prevent a repeat submission, and it is likely his best route to victory. But if he cannot keep the fight in striking range, Horiguchi has already shown he knows how to turn this matchup his way.
