Bill Cassidy led bipartisan criticism of Trump’s Iran peace memorandum, calling it “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades” after the administration moved to end the conflict.
Thirteen U.S. service members are dead, sanctions on Iran are set to be lifted and bombing has stopped, Cassidy said, arguing the deal left America worse off than before the war.
The backlash widened a broader Senate Republican revolt against Trump, whose abrupt moves have already disrupted plans on intelligence, surveillance and immigration legislation.
John Thune said White House coordination with Senate Republicans remains “fine,” but acknowledged lawmakers still get “surprised” and must stay adaptable as midterms approach.
