Canon Unveils 30-Degree AR Waveguide and Pocket-Size MR Device at AWE

Canon used AWE to showcase three XR products: a tethered pocket-size mixed-reality concept device, a new AR waveguide prototype, and MREAL Collaborator software.
The AR optics were the most detailed reveal, with two configurations—microLED and microOLED—promising a 30-degree field of view, more than 85% transmittance, and optical coupling efficiency above 15,000 nits/lm.
The handheld MR viewer remains under development and is not yet for sale, but Canon said it is seeking partners to bring the device to market.
MREAL Collaborator targets manufacturing designers, lets users without specialized 3D graphics skills handle spatial data, supports OpenXR device sharing, and is due for a free trial in early July.
The announcements extend Canon's enterprise XR push beyond its existing MREAL headset line and hint at broader deployment outside Japan, where handheld viewers are already popular.
