Yes—if users treat the new palette as unlimited decoration rather than a system, it can make schedules harder to manage. Google’s update solves a real problem: 11 colors were often too few for busy people and teams, and more options can improve scanning, categorization and accessibility. A larger palette also helps users choose higher-contrast shades and create clearer distinctions between work, personal time, deadlines and shared calendars. For many people, that will make Calendar more useful, not less. The risk is cognitive overload. Research on decision fatigue and interface design suggests that too many choices can slow people down, especially for small repeated decisions. If every event gets a slightly different shade, the calendar can become visual noise. At that point, color stops acting as a shortcut and starts requiring users to decode their own system. The danger is greater in shared calendars. Personal color logic may make sense to one user but not to colleagues, and inconsistent color meanings can create confusion. A limited, standardized palette usually works better for teams than full customization. The practical answer is restraint. The feature is most helpful when users assign a small number of colors to clear categories and stick to them. Experts in usability generally favor consistency, contrast and visual hierarchy over maximum variety. So the new freedom is best seen as optional precision: useful when disciplined, counterproductive when overused.

Google Voice has begun rolling out “Take notes for me,” which records calls, transcribes them with Gemini, and emails post-call summaries and action items through Gmail.
The feature starts from a new Notes button during calls, saves another copy inside the app, and is turned on by default for new accounts but must be enabled manually on existing ones.
English is the only supported language for now, and the tool works only when Workspace AI features such as Gmail summaries are enabled.
Paying subscribers — both standalone and enterprise — get access, while enterprise admins can manage the setting per user and only the person who starts recording can view that call’s notes.
The update brings a Pixel-style call-notes capability to Google Voice, a service widely used by businesses operating across countries.
