$600,000 was the Becketts’ target as Kare and Scott Beckett narrowed their Atlanta-area home search to three four-bedroom options in Northlake, Westview and Midway Woods.
A growing family and a down-payment boost from Mr. Beckett’s late father pushed the search forward after years of hesitation over pricing, renovation concerns and disagreements that even led the couple to therapy.
Their priorities blended commute and lifestyle: space for two children, a possible music studio, move-in-ready condition, walkability and access to Brookhaven or Decatur, while still considering historically Black west-side neighborhoods.
The finalists ranged from a $499,000 Westview house with a mural and long commute to a $655,000 Northlake home with possible water issues and a $649,000 Midway Woods house needing work but near Decatur Square.
