Summary
Hong Kong rose one place to rank second among 70 economies in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, its strongest showing since matching No. 2 in 2019.
IMD said the gain capped three straight years of improvement, driven by sustained strength in government efficiency, infrastructure, economic performance and business efficiency.
Singapore took the top spot, while Hong Kong finished ahead of Switzerland and Taiwan; the institute said the result reinforced Asian economies' dominance at the top.
The ranking marks a sharp rebound from Hong Kong's No. 7 position in 2023 and moves it closer to its 2017 peak, when it ranked first.
