UK Warns Against Travel to 2 Bolivia Regions as 6-Week Protests Block Key Roads

Britain’s Foreign Office advised against all but essential travel to Bolivia’s La Paz Department and Chapare region after more than six weeks of protests and clashes with security forces.
Road blockades across La Paz, Cochabamba, Oruro, Potosi and Chuquisaca have disrupted fuel, food and other essential supplies, while routes to El Alto airport and several highways can close with little warning.
The FCDO told British nationals to avoid protests, not cross roadblocks and consider leaving La Paz now if they can travel safely; land borders may also shut at short notice.
The unrest followed President Rodrigo Paz’s signing of a law enabling a harsher crackdown, though other tourist areas including Salar de Uyuni and Sucre remain outside the UK advisory.
