Summary
Beijing talks on June 15 saw Wang Yi and Nepal’s new Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal reaffirm closer bilateral ties, with both sides backing deeper strategic cooperation.
Wang said China would expand high-quality Belt and Road work in power grids, highways, ports and aviation, aiming to help Nepal shift from a land-locked to a land-linked country.
Nepal reiterated its one-China policy, backed China on Taiwan and Xizang-related issues, and said it would never allow its territory to be used to harm China’s interests.
Khanal also welcomed more Chinese investment and pledged a fair, law-based business environment, while both sides called for stronger multilateral coordination among developing countries.
The meeting builds on a relationship elevated during Xi Jinping’s 2019 Nepal visit and follows last year’s celebration of 70 years of diplomatic ties.
