Summary
Philadelphia police arrested 23-year-old John Wallace-Bey around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in Olney after the Wilmington Hospital shooting killed one 19-year-old man and left another in critical condition.
Investigators say Wallace-Bey, a hospital employee, allegedly shot two co-workers at about 3:30 p.m. inside the hospital in what police believe was a targeted, isolated attack.
License plate readers helped track the suspect to North 9th Street in Philadelphia, where police towed a Toyota RAV4 and took him into custody; he now faces murder and attempted murder charges pending extradition to Delaware.
The shooting triggered a lockdown and shelter-in-place order, sent SWAT teams through the building, and forced ChristianaCare to divert emergency patients while visitors and staff hid in bathrooms and treatment areas.
