Apple Readies 2 iPhone 20 Models With 6.3-inch, 6.9-inch Screens for 2027

Probably not a critical shortage, but supply risk is real. Apple’s 2027 iPhones are expected to use TSMC’s 2nm-class A21 chip, and the main pressure point at TSMC right now is being driven by AI demand from Nvidia and others. Nvidia has overtaken Apple by revenue as TSMC’s biggest customer, and TSMC has warned that leading-edge capacity and advanced packaging will remain tight into 2027. That does raise the risk of constraints for all major customers. But the evidence does not point to Apple being shut out of supply. Apple remains TSMC’s closest mobile partner, typically books early capacity, prepays to secure allocation, and has historically been the launch customer for new nodes. Reports also indicate Apple has already locked up a large share of early 2nm output for its 2026 A20 Pro, which suggests it is still in a strong position for follow-on 2027 volumes. The bigger bottleneck appears to be advanced AI packaging such as CoWoS, where Nvidia dominates. iPhone application processors do not rely on the same packaging mix as Nvidia’s AI GPUs, so Nvidia’s strength does not automatically translate into a direct hit on iPhone chip supply. TSMC is also expanding aggressively, with multiple 2nm fabs ramping from 2026 and capacity projected to grow sharply through 2028. The more plausible outcome is tighter margins, higher wafer costs, and some launch-volume pressure if yields disappoint, not a crippling shortage that derails Apple’s 2027 iPhone plans.
