Chase Extends $15 Apple One Discount to Sapphire Reserve

They are both: real savings for people already paying for Apple services, and a calculated way for Chase and Apple to deepen customer lock-in. For Sapphire Reserve cardholders, the new Apple One credit is worth about $180 a year, or slightly more in some reported cases. That is tangible value if a user already subscribes to Apple Music, Apple TV+, iCloud+ or the broader Apple One bundle. For Sapphire Preferred users, a free year of Apple TV+ or a $7.50 monthly Apple One discount can also more than offset the card’s $95 annual fee. In that narrow sense, the perk is real, not cosmetic. But the value is highly conditional. A Reserve card now costs $795 a year, so a $15 monthly Apple credit covers only a small share of that fee. It is meaningful only when combined with the card’s other travel and rewards benefits. For people who would not otherwise buy Apple One, the “savings” can become an inducement to start paying for a bundle they may keep after the discount ends. That matters because Apple’s strategy is to grow high-margin services through a sticky ecosystem. Apple One bundles music, video, storage and other services in a way that raises switching costs over time. Chase also benefits by making Sapphire cards feel harder to cancel, especially as it deepens ties with Apple ahead of its planned takeover of the Apple Card portfolio. So the perk is best viewed as genuine value for existing Apple users, but weak value for anyone joining mainly because of the Apple discount.
