Bus service from New York City was cut from $80 to $20 after public pressure and state support, but rail remains costly. Access rules add to the problem. There is no general parking at the stadium on matchdays, and spectators must use official transport or limited pre-booked options. That means fans cannot simply drive and park cheaply nearby. Hotels around the final are also seeing sharp price increases, with rooms near the venue and in Manhattan running far above normal summer rates. Officials argue the restrictions are driven largely by FIFA’s event rules and security planning, not by local preference. But the effect is the same: ordinary supporters face a much higher total bill than at many previous World Cups and than in several other 2026 host cities, where transit fares are lower or unchanged. So while the final is not literally only for the wealthy, the pricing structure is pushing it in that direction.
