The ceasefire matters because the Iran war sharply disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, pushing up energy costs and feeding inflation. Since the ceasefire announcement, crude prices have fallen sharply, which should begin lowering gasoline and some transportation costs within weeks. But that pass-through is rarely instant, and energy markets are not back to normal. A full recovery still faces delays. Shipping lanes must be cleared and verified safe, insurance costs remain high, and damaged regional energy infrastructure will take time to restore. Analysts expect most oil flows to recover by late summer or early fall, while some gas-related capacity could take much longer. That means energy prices may ease, but likely remain above prewar levels for months. More importantly, inflation at home is not just about oil. Housing, food, utilities, insurance, and other core costs were already elevated before the war. Federal Reserve projections show PCE inflation easing from about 2.7% in 2026 to 2.2% in 2027, reaching 2.0% in 2028. That suggests households may feel modest improvement later this year, more noticeable relief in 2027, and something closer to normal price stability only by 2028.

JD Vance said on ABC’s “The View” that Donald Trump meant inflation would come down once “this war is over,” not that he literally “loves” inflation.
Three panelists — Ana Navarro, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar — immediately challenged that reading, with Goldberg saying “that’s not what he said” and Behar asking whether Vance was Trump’s “interpreter or his vice-president.”
Vance repeated the explanation, recasting Trump’s line as “I love the inflation because it’s going to come down once the war is over.”
He also disputed criticism of Trump’s separate “affordability” comment, saying Trump called it a hoax only in the sense that blaming Republicans for the problem was false.
