Yes. DJI’s lawsuit looks more like a defensive move to slow a rival than a strong path to regaining U.S. market control. The core problem is not patent enforcement but market access. DJI’s new Osmo Pocket 4P is expected to launch globally soon, but U.S. availability remains uncertain because of pending FCC authorization and broader regulatory scrutiny tied to security concerns. That means DJI cannot fully capitalize on demand in one of the most important creator-tech markets, even as it unveils a more advanced dual-camera model with optical zoom and pro video features. That gap gives Insta360 an opening. Its Luna Ultra is already positioned to sell in the U.S. while DJI’s latest pocket camera is effectively sidelined. In that context, DJI’s June 10 patent suits against Insta360 appear aimed at preventing a competitor from taking over a category DJI helped define. But even if DJI won an injunction or damages, it would not solve the larger problem: DJI still needs a clear route to sell new products in the U.S. The legal fight is also unlikely to be quick or one-sided. Insta360 has already countersued, turning the dispute into a broader patent war that could take years and consume resources on both sides. Meanwhile, the compact creator-camera market is getting more crowded, with Canon and others signaling interest. So the lawsuit may protect DJI’s intellectual property position, but as a tool for U.S. market control it is weak unless DJI also clears its regulatory barriers.

The dual-camera setup pairs that new f/1.8 telephoto lens with a 1-inch 20mm wide-angle camera at f/2.0, while both support 10-bit D-Log 2 and the main sensor reaches 17 stops of dynamic range.
4K 240fps recording, a 3-axis mechanical gimbal and Intelligent Follow 8.0 aim the device at vloggers and creators, with multi-person tracking, subject-following zoom and built-in beauty and film color presets.
