Summary
Federal health officials said The Coffee Connexion Co. voluntarily recalled 913 cases of alfredo sauce distributed across dozens of U.S. states after a dry milk powder ingredient was flagged for possible salmonella contamination.
The FDA classified the recall earlier this month as its highest-risk category, meaning the product could reasonably cause serious health problems or death.
Each recalled case contains 12 sealed bags of sauce weighing more than 3 pounds each, and the recall was initiated last month, according to an FDA enforcement report.
Salmonella symptoms usually begin 12 to 72 hours after exposure and include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps, with children, older adults and immunocompromised people facing the greatest risk of severe infection.
