Summary
Hartford County recorded Connecticut’s first measles case of 2026 after weekend testing confirmed infection in an unvaccinated adult who recently returned from international travel.
The patient developed fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose, diarrhea and a rash shortly after returning, and is hospitalized in stable condition; DPH said the trip was unrelated to the World Cup.
DPH warned measles spreads through the air and infects 9 in 10 unvaccinated people exposed to the virus, with 1 in 5 unvaccinated cases requiring hospitalization.
Connecticut has logged only 2 measles cases in the past 5 years, both also in unvaccinated travelers, while U.S. cases have reached 2,073 in 2026 and are on pace to top 2025’s 2,288.
Health officials again urged 2 MMR doses, saying 1 dose is about 93% effective and 2 doses about 97% effective.
