Summary
$2.1 million in state funding will expand Long Beach’s paid youth employment and service programs for residents ages 16 to 30, with the City Council already approving acceptance of the grant.
The money from California Volunteers will be administered through the city’s Workforce Innovation Network Youth Career Services Center and support mentored work across public safety, urban planning, civic leadership, municipal operations and goods movement.
Long Beach Youth Service Corps programs set to benefit include Fire Corps, the Urban Planning and Design Internship Program, the Public Service Corps and the Port of Long Beach High School Internship Program.
The initiative runs through Dec. 31, 2027 and builds on earlier California Volunteers grants that helped place more than 400 youth in paid work, with some alumni later moving into full-time public-sector roles.
