Freedom 250 — a Trump-aligned task force underwriting the festivities — is bypassing years of Congress-backed plans for a nonpartisan semiquincentennial celebration.
That private fundraising structure has already drawn scrutiny, with Democratic Rep. Jared Huffman accusing the administration in February of trying to hijack the 250th anniversary, hide donors and sell access.
