Canada Truck Driver Employment Jumps 17,800 in May, First Monthly Gain of 2026

17,800 truck driver jobs were added in May, a 6% jump from April and the first month-to-month increase for the occupation this year, Trucking HR Canada said.
33,500 trucking and logistics jobs helped drive national employment growth, while total sector employment rose 2.8% from a year earlier to more than 784,000.
11,100 fewer truck drivers were working than a year ago, leaving driver employment still down 3.4% despite the May rebound.
9.8% fewer people were unemployed across trucking and logistics in May, including 1,500 fewer unemployed truck drivers, as transportation and warehousing ranked among Canada’s top job-creating sectors.
