Summary
Natravien R. Landry, 27, pleaded guilty on June 11 to second-degree murder and a firearm charge in the Dec. 14, 2024 killing of U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia.
Federal prosecutors said Landry went to his ex-girlfriend's on-base apartment during a drill-duty break, found Stewart in bed with her, knew he was unarmed and shot him once in the chest.
Two children were in the apartment during the shooting, including Stewart's 5-year-old son, according to investigators and family statements.
Landry fled the base after the shooting but was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 85; deputies recovered the handgun he threw from the vehicle, and testing linked it to the killing.
The former National Guard soldier faces at least 10 years and up to life in federal prison, with sentencing not yet scheduled.
