Its fallow year is not a sign of weakness but part of a long-established cycle to protect Worthy Farm and sustain the event. It is already due back in 2027. The stronger case is that Download has cemented itself as the UK’s dominant rock festival and, in Glastonbury’s off-years, can become the country’s biggest live music draw of the summer. Permanently replacing Glastonbury is harder, because the two festivals occupy different spaces: Download leads in rock identity and fan loyalty, while Glastonbury still holds the broader cultural status.
