Defense Minister Israel Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to preserve Israel’s ability to act independently against Iran’s nuclear program.
Katz tied the move to Washington’s pursuit of a new agreement with Tehran, saying any US deal must still prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
He said Israel also expects restrictions on Iran’s missile program and regional proxies, signaling concern that a narrower US-Iran accord could leave other threats intact.
Katz added that recent joint US-Israeli action had dealt Iran “severe blows” and pushed back its capabilities by years, framing the order as preparation rather than an immediate attack.
