Databricks Open-Sources Omnigent Under Apache 2.0 to Link 4-5 AI Agents

Summary
Omnigent launched in alpha as an open-source meta-harness that lets users combine, control and share AI agents such as Claude Code, Codex and custom tools through one common layer.
Databricks said the software addresses a workflow where engineers often juggle 4-5 separate agents and manually move text across docs, Slack and other tools because harnesses use incompatible interfaces.
The current release adds multi-agent composition, stateful security and cost policies—including pauses after every $100 of LLM spend—plus live session sharing, cloud execution and an OS sandbox.
Databricks said experience across its 5,000-plus engineering team and thousands of customer agents convinced it that agent development is shifting from single harnesses to a higher orchestration layer.
